george awde (b. 1980) received his bfa in painting from massachusetts college of art (2004) and his mfa in photography from yale university’s school of art (2009). his awards include the aaron siskind foundation's individual photographer's fellowship (2012), philadelphia museum of art's photography portfolio competition (2012), fulbright us scholar grant to egypt (2012-2013), center - choice awards: gallerist’s choice/2nd place (2012), alice kimball english travel fellowship (2009), and the richard benson scholarship for excellence in photography (2008). awde has exhibited internationally in such cities as new york, los angeles, paris, and beirut. most recently his work was shown at the istanbul biennial (2011), l’institut du monde arabe (2012), and his solo exhibition, quiet crossings, at drew university (2011). additionally, his work has been included in numerous publications such as regeneration2: tomorrow’s photographers today (2010), noorderlicht photofestival, land – country life in the urban age (2010), and the magenta foundation’s flash forward (2011). his work is included in collections such as the philadelphia museum of art, center–santa fe, musée de l'elysée, the university of cape town - michaelis school of fine art, and yale university - art & architecture.awde has also taught at the american university of beirut and rochester institute of technology. he will be a visiting professor at cairo university in the academic year 2012/2013.
