roy dib (b. 1983) is an artist and art critic who is based in beirut, lebanon. graduated in theatre and fine arts, dib works with different media such as performance, film, video and installations. using these different modes of storytelling, his work constantly focuses on the subjective constructions of space, mainly investing in the shifts and distortions that affect the resulting image of the city in human understanding across various spatial narratives. his work is a critical conversation with multiple narratives of the city, creating opportunities to discuss socio-cultural and identity-related topics on a human scale. dib co-founded the theater group zoukak (2006–2009). his first video under a rainbow (2011) was shown at video works, ashkal alwan (2011); palais de tokyo, paris (2012); rotterdam international film festival (2013); senatsreservenspeicher berlin gallery (2013) and parallel vienna (2013). he participated in 2011/12 home workspace program at ashkal alwan in beirut, where he produced a video installation titled objects in mirror are closer than they appear later presented in the 18th edition of videobrasil (2013) and in ecransmed short film festival in montreal (2014).
his latest short film, mondial 2010 (2014), won the teddy award for best short film, and was presented at 64th berlinale - forum expanded section, locomotion artist's moving image festival, indiemovingimage, middle east now film festival, video works in beirut, and meeting points 7 in vienna. the film won the best first film award at the lebanese film festival, inntravel award at the berwick film and media arts festival, and best short film at queer lisboa international film festival.
