Un-drum / strategies of surviving noise
Composed and performed by Tarek Atoui Computer programming and hardware engineering: Tarek Atoui Produced by: Sharjah Biennial Duration: 30/35 minutes
Un-drum / strategies of surviving noise is an intense and physical electronic sound performance. It draws upon the 3 days of arrest and torture I experienced during the July 2006 war on Lebanon, during which I permanently lost partial hearing in my left ear after receiving a beating to the head.‘Un-drum / strategies of surviving noise’ draws parallels between attempts to break states of physical and psychological detention and siege and the collapsing of musical performance boundaries, laptop art and electronic music.
Nikoll&Tarek
A duo performance by: Tarek Atoui and Nicolas Cante presented by : Seconde Nature and Dfragment
An encounter of the third kind between two musicians as sophisticated as it is elusive, Nikoll&Tarek has no rules and is purely blunt; decibel flows and sound deflorescence shape the personality of Nikoll&Tarek’s genuine and wildly bare process, a scenic act saturated with both love and bombs. Born out of an improvised performance, disjointed and enhanced, in early 2008 at l’Ecole Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence (France), Nikoll&Tarek (Nicolas Cante and Tarek Atoui) present today the continuation of its amazing sound exploration. On the occasion of the gathering of these two artists for the “No Edit?” workshop hosted by Beirut Art Center, Nikoll&Tarek will perform its first concert there.
A Seconde Nature (www.secondenature.org) and DFragment (www.dfragmentmusic.com) coproduction, In collaboration with the Beirut Art Center and Tunefork Studios (Beirut. T +961 1 491498). Supported by Marseille Provence 2013 et Culturesfrance. |
