About the event
Following the exhibition Prisoner Of War by architect Bernard Khoury in summer 2009, Beirut Art Center is happy to invite Khoury anew for a conversation with Rudy Ricciotti, recipient of the Grand Prix National d'Architecture de France.

During this encounter, the two architects will deliberate the question: Is there such a thing as an identity debate in architecture?

*Rudy Ricciotti will also present his latest work during a talk organized by l’ALBA on Tuesday February 23rd at 6.30pm at the “la salle polyvalente” of the university.

Rudy Ricciotti’s early works are characterized by a radical, carefree approach, displaying a variety of forms and full of energy. Since the beginning of 1990s, Ricciotti has been influenced by Arte Povera and his buildings have become more austere and functional, making use of minimalist and "low-tech" solutions. With the opening of the concert hall in Potsdam, and the construction of a footbridge in Seoul ("Footbridge of Peace", 2002), Ricciotti received international recognition. He won the National Grand Prize in Architecture in 2006. His current projects include the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations (Marseille), the Arts of Islam Department in Louvre Museum (Paris), the Rivesaltes Memorial, the Palace of Festivals in Venice, Jean Bouin Stadium (Paris)…

Bernard Khoury studied architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (B.F.A 1990 / B.Arch 1991). He received a Masters in Architectural Studies from Harvard University (M.Arch 1993). In 2001, he was awarded the honorable mention of the Borromini prize given to architects under 40 years of age by the municipality of Rome. In 2004, he was awarded the Architecture + Award. He was a visiting professor at the Ecole polytechnique Federale de Lausanne and has lectured and exhibited his work in prestigious academic institutions in Europe and the U.S including a solo show of his work given by the International Forum for Contemporary Architecture at the Aedes gallery in Berlin (2003). His work has been extensively published by the professional press. Khoury started an independent practice in 1993. Over the past 16 years, his office has developed an international reputation and a significant diverse portfolio of projects both locally and abroad.
